Laser cladding repair of pump impeller
Alabama Laser offers laser cladding services to refurbish damaged parts to OEM specs, repair worn surfaces, and enhance the properties of parts (wear/corrosion/erosion resistance).

Repair of pump shafts and components for:

   • Wear on the ID or OD of the part
   • Damage caused during assembly/disassembly
   • Damage as a result of corrosion during service
   • Machining errors

Laser cladding is a process which is used to deposit a layer of material onto a surface to repair shafts or components.

In contrast to heat inducing technologies (conventional plasma weld overlay, MIG, TIG, or Sub Arc welding), laser cladding uses
low heat that doesn’t affect the concentricity or cause warpage of the shaft or part.

After being clad, the repaired area may then be post-machined back to print specification.

Laser cladding results in a metallurgical bond between the base material and the substrate unlike a thermal spray process where the bond is mechanical. Other spray processes can crack, allowing the coating to flake off. The durable metallurgical bond of laser cladding prevents this from occurring.

Laser cladding also allows alloys to be added to strategic areas on the shaft to eliminate problems such as wear and corrosion.
