QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR

Quality Control Inspector Job Summary
Inspects and reports on materials and products using variable or attribute measuring instruments and techniques to ensure conformance with the company’s quality standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Read blueprints and/or job travelers for specific product specifications or requirements.
  • Analyzes the specifications and requirements to determine what attributes need to be measured or tested. 
  • Collects product samples for inspection.
  • Positions or connects parts or instruments for inspection or operation.
  • Performs final inspection on products and evaluates information against standards.
  • Uses instruments and specialized equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gage pins and etc.
  • Marks items for acceptance or rejection.  Records results.
  • Works directly with production and sales on quality issues pertaining to their parts.
  • Communicates inspection results with immediate supervisor, suggest ways to fix problems.
  • Interacts with department supervisors, managers and engineering to ensure the actions taken are appropriate.
  • Prepares test and inspection reports.
  • Performs administrative tasks, such as entering data into computer databases, scanning and filing material test reports.
  • Maintain equipment on a routine basis.  Determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned as it relates to position.     
                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of ISO 9000 Standards.
  • Functional knowledge of weldments and welding techniques.
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings.                                                                                                                      
  • Ability to use a variety of inspection tools and equipment.
  • Familiarity with methods, tools and processes used in metal fabrication.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical and detailed oriented.
  • Good interactive problem solving, teamwork, decision-making and integration skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Computer skills.
  • Ability to work with other departments to solve problems and make improvements.
  • Ability to set up and / or program CMM / FARO / Virtek / Keyence automated measuring equipment
  • Ability to interact with customers and suppliers in a professional manner.


Education and/or Experience

  • HS Diploma (preferred) or GED.   Associates degree or equivalent in an appropriate related field (desired).  Minimum of one year of relevant experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret multifaceted documents. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries.


Mathematical Skills

  • Solid Math foundation.
  • Ability to utilize trigonometry principles.


Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several particular variables in standardized situations.

  • The work environment may include periodic time in manufacturing facilities, with extreme temperatures and noise levels.  The employee maybe required to wear safety gear.
  •  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
