Charlotte Ann May, a resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022. Born in Eucutta, Mississippi on February 2, 1944, Charlotte Ann May was the third of five children. She was raised in Gulfport, Mississippi, graduating Gulfport High School in 1961, and then later moved to Mobile, Alabama to raise her two sons.
Charlotte enjoyed crafting, bargain shopping, and the occasional trip to the casino. Charlotte was known for her amazing crafting ability. She elaborately decorated her family home on Courthouse Road for every holiday and season. Her creative ideas attracted an audience frequently driving by to see her latest displays. Always eager to help others, this same home was designated as a meeting place for dinner following Hurricane Katrina.
On February 5, 1965, Charlotte married her beloved husband, Donald May. She loved him and their two sons selflessly throughout their 55 years of marriage. Charlotte spent many years as a homemaker, and diligently managing financial accounts for multiple businesses. When Charlotte was not working or caring for her family, she was often creating wreaths for hospital staff, decorations for the nursing home where her beloved granddaughter worked and collecting donations for the Mission of Hope. Charlotte continuously gave of herself wholeheartedly.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her husband, Donald May; son, Matthew May; mother, Velma LaCuesta; brother, Dr. Bob Whitfield; and sister, Brenda Verchinski.
After a long and hard-fought battle with cancer, Charlotte was surrounded by many that loved her throughout the final weeks of her life. At 78 years old, she passed away peacefully at home with her son at her side. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Tony (Tessa); brother, Dr. Rick LaCuesta (Della); sister, Rita Huth (George); eight grandchildren, including Emily May, that helped care for her tirelessly; 4 great grandchildren; Stacy Hardy, whom she loved like a sister; daughter-in-law, Lisa May; and countless nieces and nephews.
