Occupation: Financial Advisor

Children: 3
Grandchildren: 0
After GHS, one year of the Army with the 305th Field Hospital in Texas. Millsaps College
in 1962, but poor grades and modest circumstances made me head to USM. Found that I liked
accounting and finance (Gulfport Hi teacher, Carrie Harmon's influence?) and finished in
1966. One year in cost accounting enuf for me and entered the investment business in New
Orleans in 1967. Moved to Jackson to join a financial planning firm in 1968. Single in
Jackson for 6 years when I met Jean Nicholson, a Millsaps graduate and social worker.
Bowled over by Jean and after 15 months of asking the big Q, she agreed and married in
1975. 3 children in late 70's. Continued in financial planning until 1988 when I
transitioned to money management firm. Now, president of Medley & Brown in Jax.
Children: Age 19 daughter with Americorp in MT, age 21 son at Ole Miss on golf team, and
age 23 son just graduated from Northeastern in Boston and has job with J. P. Morgan in
NYC.
Thoughts about GHS: Three wonderful years of my life. The teachers were much better than I
think we realized, we were a cross section of poor (north of the tracks) and rich (2nd
street), bible-thumpin Baptists ran with hail mary Catholics, we were confident (for the
life of me I do not know why), and last, at some point during the late '50's, we overdosed
on an enthusiasm for living.
Gulfport High School 1958-1961 has terrific memories for me. |
