David Berch Henry
February 21, 1943 to July 25, 2000
GULFPORT – David Berch Henry, 57, of Gulfport died Tuesday, July 25, 2000,
of lymphoma at his home in Gulfport.
Mr. Henry was born in Madison WI, and was a longtime resident of New Orleans
and Gulfport. He was a graduate of Gulfport High School and the University
of Mississippi. Mr. Henry was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian
Church.
Mr. Henry incorporated his early love for computers in his professional
life, serving as a consultant with Southern Bell and Anderson Consulting.
In 1968, he joined Wm. B. Reily, Inc. in New Orleans where he remained until
retiring to Gulfport in 1989. Mr. Henry received several professional
honors including serving two terms as president of the ASM (Association for
Systems Management).
Mr. Henry was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at the early age of
thirty. He started the first support group for Parkinson’s patients and
their families in New Orleans called the Parkinson’s Education Program.
When he retired to Gulfport he became active in the local Gulf Coast
Parkinson’s Support Group. Both programs remain strong and continue to be
vital resources for sufferers and their loved ones. His wife, Becky, will
continue his efforts in running the support group.
He was preceded in death by his father, Berch W. Henry. Survivors include
his wife, Becky Smith Henry of Gulfport; two daughters, Jennifer Holmes of
New Orleans LA and Jill Chopra of Atlanta, GA; his mother, Lorie Henry of
Gulfport; two brothers, Jim Henry and Bill Henry, both of Gulfport; two
sisters, Patti Sneed and Beth Barnett, both of Gulfport.
He was a loving father, a devoted husband, and a friend to all. He will be
sadly missed by all who knew him.
The funeral service will be Thursday, July 27, 2000 at 12 p.m. noon at
Westminster Presbyterian Church, Gulfport, where friends may visit thirty
minutes before the service. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memorial
Garden, Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to The Parkinson’s
Research Fund c/o Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Department of
Neurology, 1542 Tulane Ave., New Orleans, LA 70112.
